Valtteri Bottas secured pole position for this weekends 1000th Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton the sister Mercedes was just 0.023 behind him.

Hamilton looked like he could put a lap in to pip Bottas but he is struggling with the balance of the car, not really tuned into the handling of his Mercedes, hopefully Lewis’s race pace will be better for tomorrow

The Ferrari's of Sebastian and Charles had to settle fo 3rd and 4th as they could not match the Mercedes speed in China.

Red Bull had a strong performance with Max starting in 5th and Pierre right behind him in 6th position.

Red Bull, on the 3rd row of the grid   have the strongest chance this weekend, with good long run pace in free practice, they should be fighting with the Mercedes and the Ferrari’s.

My instinct tells me that the Mercedes will struggle at the start of the race and the car will get better midway , if the Red Bull’s can get a clean start it will be a Ferrari and Red Bull fight for Podium positions.
