This weekend is the Formula 1 Rolex British Grand Prix, for most fans the best race in the world.
The very first world championship race was held at Silverstone 69 years ago.
The circuit is 3.660 miles long with a daunting high speed corners such as copse.
The sudden change of direction of a Grand prix car is hard to imagine if you have not watched from a corner such as the legendary copse or Maggots.
Silverstone is the heart of Formula 1 with 10 teams in the 2019 Formula 1 world championship just within a 90 minute drive of the circuit.
As a world class event Rolex continues its support of the most historic race on the Formula 1 calendar.
Rolex has supported Formula 1® as a Global Partner and the Official Timepiece since 2013, the technical precision and rich heritage of this high-performance sport resonating strongly with the Swiss watch brand’s own commitment to continuous excellence in all its activities. This will be the third successive year Rolex has been Title Sponsor of the event.
Mark Webber a Rolex Testimonne, explains his thoughts on the fantastic Silverstone Circuit.
Emphasizing the enduring appeal of Silverstone Circuit, Rolex Testimonee and two time winner of the race Mark Webber remarks: “Unbelievably, the track has stayed very true to its roots – it has hardly been modified and many of the corners are the same as they were 70 years ago – and that is something that is very symbolic to us racing drivers. You can feel the history.”
The 5.891 km track is a revered challenge for teams as they contend with changeable weather conditions around one of the quickest tracks in Formula 1®. A combination of fast and technical corners means car set-up is crucial during qualifying and throughout the 52-lap race. Webber continues: “Silverstone is a test of man and machine due to its high-speed nature. You have to be especially brave around the Maggots and Becketts section. To get the ultimate lap time at Silverstone, it’s all about being precise and focused, and it’s this attention to detail that makes Rolex’s association with this race so special.”
