Monaco Grand Prix Free Practice 1:
By Harry Schofield:
Lewis Hamilton continued Mercedes strong position with taking the fastest time in the first practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix.(1:12.106)
The whole weekend has been over shadowed by the death of Niki Lauda, with all the teams and drivers carrying special tributes on the cars as a mark of respect.
Max Verstappen showed good speed and and balance as he split the Mercedes with just 0.059 s behind Lewis .
Max as ever was on the limit swapping ends but keeping control in the swimming pool section .
An extraordinary situation occurred for the Hass team as both cars were black flagged, initionally thoughts was about an ongoing copy right case with Rich Energy, but later emerged to be a totall loss of communication with both cars causing the FIA to loose all GPS and mandatory car data .
Williams again still on the back foot, had another scare with Robert Kubicia spinning and just kissing the barrier but no major damage apparent to his Williams .
Ferrari again this weekend don't seem to be dialled into the street circuit with Charles and Sebastian 4th and 5th respectively.
Ferrari like Red Bull have to deliver, but with qualifying crucial, it is important to use all available track time to be 100 percent prepared for qualifying and the race.
Red Bull have the chassis and a strong engine and with Max behind the wheel they should be on the podium, Max’s driving has matured over the last few races but he still has got that aggressive driving style that is so much in demand from team owners, Red Bull has to deliver for Max or I feel a possible Ferrari seat might become available real soon .
Free Practice 2 continues this afternoon, Friday no track action then back to normal business on Saturday with FP3 and probably the most anticipated qualifying session of the 2019 season .
