Monaco Grand Prix Free Practice 3:
By Harry Schofield:
Saturday Morning in Monaco, the last practice session before the all important qualifying session.
Thursday saw Ferrari struggle with the pace, after looking into the laps and data, its clear that the main problem is with front end grip.
Both Sebastian and Charles have the same problem, they cant get enough heat into the front tyres to make them work in the correct operating windows.
This Mornings practice session confirmed this as mechanics were using hot blow guns directly into the front braking shrouds .
This confirms that they need modifications to the aero package to overcome this.
Sebastian Vettel was the first casualty of the morning locking his front left wheel up and crashing into the barrier at Ste Devote, again emphasises what issues Ferrari have with the tyre temperatures.
Lance Stroll had an early lock up again at Ste Devote, front left locked up but managed to control the slide away from the barrier and into the direction of the church avoiding costly repairs like the Ferrari of Sebastian .
Max Verstppen as ever was on the throttle, through the streets of Monte Carlo clipped the left rear wheel but escaped any major damage.
At the end of the session it was the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc that took the fastest time of the practice session with the two Mercedes 2nd and 3rd.
Although the Ferrari was quickest the Both Mercedes seem to have the race pace and with only 3 engines available this year, I suspect engine modes will be turned up for the qualifying session and Mercedes will take the usual top position.
Charles is also under investigation for a infringement under the VSC when his team mate hit the barrier, this could result in Charles having a penalty which could destroy his qualifying.
